Quarterback Vince Ferragamo, whom the Rams are trying to trade, displayed his talents for the Buffalo Bills Wednesday.

Buffalo Coach Kay Stephenson and his staff watched for two hours as Ferragamo worked with several Bill players and then led a makeshift, seven-man offense against an equal number of defenders.

“It went well,” said Stephenson, who is looking for an experienced quarterback to replace longtime starter Joe Ferguson, traded to Detroit earlier in the year. “Vince has a tremendous amount of physical ability (and) all the tools.”

Ferragamo said the tryout “went all right. I wasn’t expecting the seven-on-seven. This was a little more detailed than normal.”

The quarterback said the broken passing hand he suffered early last season with the Rams “felt great,” and Buffalo team physician Dr. Richard Weiss, who examined the hand, said the break had mended.

Ferragamo, who was delayed in arriving here because of the birth of his third child last week, also had a tryout with the Green Bay Packers, but the Packers subsequently acquired Scott Brunner in a trade with the Denver Broncos.

“I’m optimistic about landing somewhere soon,” said Ferragamo, who the Rams no longer plan to keep because of their signing of former Canadian Football League star Dieter Brock in March.
