The Cupertino, Calif.-based company said about 80 workers will be laid off at the plant, which made parts for the recently discontinued Macintosh XL computer. In recent weeks, Apple has dismissed about 1,600 workers, many of whom were temporary, as it closed or consolidated several production facilities. Apple said the San Jose plant also made prototype models of two machines under development for its new line of office-automation equipment. It will now seek outside suppliers for those products.
