Police Sgt. Hal Moore Dies of Cancer at 52
Los Angeles Police Sgt. Hal Moore, a popular motorcycle officer who in his 24-year career escorted Presidents and Olympic athletes, has died in his Eagle Rock home of cancer. He was 52.
Department officials said Moore died Wednesday--six weeks after 100 of his colleagues, Chief Daryl F. Gates and cast members from the TV series “Hill Street Blues” gathered at a surprise testimonial organized after Moore’s disease was diagnosed and he was forced to take sick leave.
A Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. today at St. Dominic’s Church in Eagle Rock. A Mass will be said at 9 a.m. Saturday at the same church.
Moore leaves his wife, Ruth; a daughter, Tammy, and a son, Douglas.
