Authorities found legionnaire’s disease bacteria in the air-conditioning system of a suburban Detroit hotel where at least 43 persons became ill with symptoms of the disease and one person died, officials said Friday.

The bacteria were found in a water sample taken from one of the air-conditioning units serving a banquet room at the Airport Hilton Inn in Romulus, said Bill Johnson, a spokesman for Wayne County Executive William Lucas.
