Help Small Farmers

Share

Regarding “State Moves to Boost Farm Exports” (May 10), there is a potential to increase California’s agricultural exports, but an important question for the state is who will be doing this trading. It will be the big corporate farms--the ones with the capital and marketing backgrounds to enable them to sell to foreign countries.

For small farmers to compete with the corporate farms they will have to form co-ops. It would be in the state’s best interest to help small farmers organize these co-ops. Small farmers are the ones most likely to put their earnings back into the California economy. In fact, they are most likely to put that money into local areas helping the economies of our rural counties.
