The Conference Board said its seasonally adjusted help-wanted advertising index fell seven points to 131 in April from March. The index read 124 in April, 1984. The index, which uses a 1967 base of 100, measures the volume of classified advertising in 51 major newspapers across the nation. “While there are some signs that the overall pace of economic activity is stronger in the second quarter than in the first quarter, the latest findings on help-wanted ad volume show that labor demand is not yet picking up,” said Kenneth Goldstein, an economist for the business-sponsored research group.
