S. Pasadena Police Share Use of Alhambra Crime Computer
As part of a trend of increasing cooperation among San Gabriel Valley law enforcement agencies, the South Pasadena Police Department has purchased the required hardware and is now utilizing a crime information computer at the Alhambra Police Department.
Alhambra’s computer, which has become a model system for police agencies nationwide, has been in operation three years. It performs a variety of tasks, including identifying crime trends, organizing information on suspects and gathering police intelligence from outside agencies.
At a cost of $300 a month, South Pasadena will use the computer for much the same information, said Officer Bob Panza, a spokesman for the Alhambra Police Department. In turn, Alhambra will use the monthly payments to improve the system.
The computer link is the most recent attempt by San Gabriel Valley law enforcement agencies to combine crime fighting efforts. In March, the Alhambra, Monterey Park and Montebello police departments announced the formation of a regional task force to fight Asian organized crime.
