Furniture Makers Warn of Crib, Playpen Dangers

WASHINGTON — Nine makers of infant furniture are launching a campaign to warn parents that using dropside, mesh-sided cribs and playpens with the side down can lead to fatal accidents, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said Wednesday.
The commission said that it has received reports of the deaths of 15 young children, aged 2 weeks to 6 months, who were asphyxiated or suffocated in the cribs or playpens when sides were left down.
