Figure-skater Dorothy Hamill has sued the Pacific Plaza Hotel in San Francisco because $365,215 in jewelry was stolen from her room in 1982 while she was performing in a production of “Nutcracker on Ice.” The suit filed in San Francisco Superior Court contends the hotel was “grossly negligent” in allowing an unidentified man into the Olympic and professional skating star’s suite the night the jewels were stolen. A federal appeals court earlier rejected Hamill’ suit that argued her insurer should cover the loss. The insurer, Lloyd’s of London, said her policy specified that she leave the jewels in a hotel safe.
