The import company Saab-Scania of America Inc. on Friday recalled 22,700 Swedish-made Saab cars because of defects that could cause engine fires.

Saab said it recalled 11,100 1985-model Saab 900 Turbos that may have incorrectly installed fuel hoses that could bend and leak in the engine compartment. An additional 11,600 Saab 900, 900S and 900 Turbo automobiles produced early in the 1984 model year were recalled because an improperly mounted electrical cable could start a short-circuit, the company said.
