Microcomputer Firm Creates New Position

Microcomputer Memories Inc. of Van Nuys named Richard F. Smith to fill the newly created position of vice president for sales, reporting to the president.

Before joining Microcomputer Memories, Smith had most recently been director of sales for MiniScribe Corp. He has a sales background that includes positions with IBM, Honeywell and Control Data.

“With the growth of the market for 3.5-inch rigid disk drives, we recognize the need to broaden our national and international efforts to capitalize on that market,” said company President D. Curtiss Johnson.

He added that “R.D. Eirich, the company’s vice president of marketing, will continue to direct marketing operations. Richard Smith will assume responsibility for development of the sales function and will expand the department to foster growth of the company.”

Hotel Properties Inc., a Woodland Hills-based real estate investment trust, announced that Deane E. McCormick Jr. was reelected to its board. He is a vice president with Litton Industries in Beverly Hills. The company also announced the reappointment of John F. Rothman, its president, who will also take the new title of chief executive. Other officers reappointed were: Brian J. Farrell, vice president; Michael L. Klowden, secretary; and Glenn A. Ellis, assistant secretary and treasurer.

The Sheraton at Universal City announced several promotions and new hires. Jean Ulicny was named a sales manager for the two hotels. Also made a sales manager was Ross Anderson. Margie Sitton, former assistant director of sales, becomes director of group sales.

Harvey Moss was named vice president of Industrial Park Associates in Canoga Park, with responsibilities including sales supervision, administration, and office management. He was formerly director of sales staff development with the company, a real-estate brokerage that deals in commercial real estate.
