Santa Monica
The Santa Monica-Malibu Board of Education voted Monday to provide free transportation to former Madison Elementary School students who must travel more than a mile to their new schools.
The board voted in February to close Madison, at 1018 Arizona St., because of declining enrollment in the district.
“We are primarily talking about students who are reassigned to Roosevelt Elementary,” said Rory Livingston, business services administrator. Most of the students reassigned to John Muir and McKinley live less than a mile away. Projected cost of the busing is about $2,000.
