A “bomb” that turned out to be a sound modulating device for electric guitars forced closure of the U.S.-Mexican border for more than an hour Friday morning.

According to San Diego police, an American visitor to Tijuana returned to his car, parked on the San Diego side of the border, Friday and found a box with various knobs on the front seat. The man took the box to the U.S. Border Patrol station 100 yards north of the border, where he told officials that it looked like a bomb.

Border officials immediately cordoned off all automobile and pedestrian traffic in both directions and called the bomb disposal unit of the San Diego Fire Department. The unit discovered that the device was an analog switch used on a foot pedal to control an electric guitar, police spokesman Bill Robinson said.
