A 24-year-old Camp Pendleton Marine was killed Friday when he drove his small pickup truck around a curve in the wrong lane and struck a station wagon head-on, a California Highway Patrol spokeswoman said. The victim, whose name was not immediately released pending notification of relatives, died at Palomar Hospital. The crash occurred at 5:40 p.m. on Sunset Drive in Escondido. Three other people were taken to Palomar Hospital with injuries. A hospital spokesman said Claire Abernethy, 35, the driver of the station wagon, and her 8-year-old son, John, were treated for their injuries but not admitted. John Dolan, 20, a passenger in the truck, suffered facial cuts and possible facial fractures. He was transferred to the Navy hospital in Balboa Park, the Palomar spokesman said.
