Waldorf Defeated in British Amateur Golf Championship
Irishman Garth McGimpsey defeated Duffy Waldorf of Tarzana on Friday and advanced to today’s 36-hole final in the British Amateur Golf Championship.
McGimpsey, 29, defeated Waldorf, the top U.S. college player at UCLA, 4 and 3, in the quarterfinal. He beat British teen-ager Patrick Hall, 3 and 2, in a semifinal match.
The 23-year-old Briton Graham Homewood beat fellow Briton Peter Baker, 17, on the last hole then ousted Scotland’s David James.
Homewood and James were level after four holes but Homewood won the fifth, sixth and ninth, then holed putts of eight and 65 feet to seal the victory.
