A newspaper photographer says a bodyguard for pop star Madonna punched him and bounced him off a wall when he tried to take her picture outside a Manhattan nightspot.

Dick Corkery of the New York Daily News filed a complaint against the unidentified bodyguard, charging him with assault in the incident last week outside the Palladium.

According to Corkery and another photographer, Felice Quinto of the Associated Press, they were attempting to snap pictures of the singer when the bodyguard threatened to break their cameras.

Guard ‘Wouldn’t Listen’

“We tried to reason with the guard, but he didn’t want to listen,” Quinto said.

Witnesses alleged that the guard grabbed Corkery and bounced him off a wall before punching him.

Madonna, whose string of hit singles includes “Borderline,” “Crazy for You” and “Like a Virgin,” then ducked into a car and left.

The pop phenomenon is on her first nationwide tour, which brought her to Radio City Music Hall this week.
