France to Eliminate 37,500 Defense Jobs

PARIS —
Defense Minister Charles Hernu said Sunday he will eliminate 37,500 jobs in the defense industry over the next four years.
Hernu told a television interviewer that the jobs, representing about 5% of the total defense work force, will be phased out under government austerity policies. He gave no details of how the cuts will be distributed.
