Actor-comedian Milton Berle, the “Uncle Miltie” who dominated Thursday night television during the 1950s, was reported in serious but stable condition after undergoing quadruple bypass heart surgery at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Hospital spokesman Ron Wise said the four-hour operation “went smoothly throughout, and everyone expects it to continue to go in that direction.” Wise said the 76-year-old entertainer checked himself into the hospital last Thursday complaining of chronic fatigue. A series of tests subsequently disclosed that disease had reduced the flow of blood to the heart, Wise said.
