Neo-Nazis Say They Painted Swastika Found at Asner Home

A neo-Nazi group has assumed responsibility for spray-painting a black swastika and the words “Kill Jews” on the front door of actor Ed Asner’s Studio City home early Saturday, police said.

Police Sgt. Fred Reynolds said an anonymous caller told a United Press International reporter at 5:45 a.m. Saturday that the attack was the work of an organization called the National Socialist Liberation Front. Reynolds said the caller referred to Asner as a “Jewish communist pig.”

The caller also threatened to attack the home again if Asner continued his activities “in the interest of international communism and Zionism,” Reynolds said.

Asner, an actor best known for his television roles in “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” and “Lou Grant,” is president of the Screen Actors Guild and an active spokesman for various liberal causes.

Reynolds said that Asner was not in the house at the time of the attack and that no further damage was discovered.

Asner could not be reached for comment.
