Burroughs Corp. has terminated merger talks with New York-based Sperry Corp. after the computer makers failed to agree on combining their technology and marketing, Burroughs said today.

A new computer company formed by the merger would have ranked second behind industry leader International Business Machines Corp. Burroughs said negotiations continued through the weekend, but broke off when Burroughs insisted that the companies merge but keep marketing and technological strategies separate.
