Levi Strauss & Co. reported second-quarter net income of $32.1 million, up from $6.4 million in the like period a year ago, when results included a $24.5-million after-tax charge resulting from the closure of certain facilities and certain business consolidation costs. Revenue for the 1985 quarter declined 7%. “Our results for the quarter reflect the benefits of a lower effective tax rate, last year’s cost reduction initiatives, the continuing strength of our men’s jeans sales and the streamlining of our product offerings,” commented Robert D. Hass, president and chief executive of the San Francisco-based company.
