Senate Panel Backs Nestande in Transit Post

The Senate Rules Committee Wednesday recommended confirmation of Orange County Supervisor Bruce Nestande as a member of the state Transportation Commission, a post he has held for three years.

The panel asked Nestande only a few general questions about his qualifications and transportation finance before it voted 3 to 0 to recommend confirmation to the full Senate.

Nestande, first appointed by former Gov. Edmund G. Brown Jr., was reappointed to the commission by Gov. George Deukmejian last February.

Nestande was elected chairman of the commission, which helps set statewide transportation policy and does long-range planning for road and transit projects, earlier this year.

His term on the commission expires in February, 1989. However, he has announced his intention to run for lieutenant governor in 1986.
