A Riverside man was killed and four other people were seriously injured in a collision that occurred in western Riverside County when an allegedly drunk driver tried to pass another car, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said Thursday.

Ryan Kip Eaves, 21, was pronounced dead at the scene Wednesday after he was thrown from a Datsun that was attempting to pass another car while headed west on Cajalco Road near Lake Mathews Drive in an unincorporated area.

The Datsun, driven by 24-year-old Daniel Hyatt, also of Riverside, broadsided an oncoming vehicle in the eastbound lane, said John Anderson, CHP public affairs officer in Riverside.

Hyatt will be charged with felony drunk driving and vehicular manslaughter when he is released from Riverside General Hospital, Anderson said. He was listed in stable condition Thursday in the intensive care unit, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Also admitted to Riverside General was Judith Masucli, 7, a passenger in the eastbound car. She suffered facial injuries and was listed in serious condition Thursday in the pediatric intensive care unit.

Her mother and sister, 29-year-old Judy Masucli and 3-year-old Julia, were admitted to Riverside Community Hospital.
