Former National Hockey League player Serge Bernier was denied bail in sessions court Friday after being charged with trafficking and conspiracy to traffic a kilogram of cocaine.

Bernier, 38, was one of four people arrested Thursday by provincial police in connection with a seizure of cocaine with an estimated street value of $1.2 million. A preliminary hearing will be held July 10.

Bernier was a first choice of the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League in the 1967 amateur draft. He played with Philadelphia and later the Quebec Aces of the American Hockey League before being traded to the Los Angeles Kings, where he played from 1971 to 1973.
