A roller coaster maintenance man who was killed at the Del Mar Fair when one of the ride’s cars struck him was identified Sunday by the coroner’s office as Donald L. Williams, 24.
Williams, from Colorado, died of massive head injuries after he was hit Saturday by the car which was carrying 10 people and traveling uphill about 15 m.p.h. Authorities would not speculate why the man was on the track.
Williams was an employee of the Ray Cammack Shows company, operator the ride.
The ride, the Hi Miler, was closed for inspection after the accident but was reopened Sunday. The ride, however, was again shut down Sunday evening after a sprocket wheel that pulled the cars broke, said Ted Bear, a fair spokesman. As soon as a replacement part can be found the ride will reopen, he said.
