Shouting “I’m going to kill you,” an Inglewood man fired two shots at a car carrying his estranged wife and a friend, then pursued them to the Pasadena police station, where he shot his wife to death, wounded her companion and committed suicide, authorities said Monday.

Pasadena police Lt. Gary Bennett said Casey Phillips, 25, was shot to death and Judy Thomas, 25, was wounded in a foot as they stopped outside the police station at 142 N. Arroyo Parkway seeking help.

The coroner said the husband, Cedric Phillips, 22, was an immigrant from South Africa, and his wife was from Louisiana.

“It seems to be a pretty open and shut case, “ Bennett said. “All indications seem to be a murder-suicide.”

At least two people witnessed the shooting. They told investigators that the gunman jumped out of his car, ran to the automobile carrying his wife and fired two shots with a handgun before shooting himself in the head.

By the time officers inside the station responded, the incident was over.

According to Bennett, the couple had marital troubles and recently parted. She left Inglewood and moved in with a friend in Pasadena.

The two women were driving south on Los Robles Avenue in Pasadena at about 7 a.m. Monday when the husband drove up alongside, yelled, “I’m going to kill you,” and fired at them.

Then, he chased them three or four blocks as they sought, but failed, to reach safety at the police station.
