Southwest Airlines Co. of Dallas, which Tuesday completed its $60-million acquisition of Muse Air Corp., named William W. Franklin president and chief executive of Muse, the no-smoking airline also based in Dallas. Franklin had been executive vice president of Southwest, where he has worked since 1971.

M. Lamar Muse, who founded the airline in 1981 with his son Michael and was president of Southwest from 1971 to 1978, will step down as chairman and chief executive to become vice chairman of Muse. He will no longer have an active role, Southwest said.
