A bill ending state Coastal Commission jurisdiction over 7 1/2 to 10 acres of the Famosa Slough, near Ocean Beach, passed the state Assembly, 50-14, Wednesday despite the vehement objections of Assemblywoman Lucy Killea (D-San Diego), who represents the wetlands area.
The bill would make it easier for a developer, who has an option to purchase the 20-acre parcel, to build a proposed condominium project on it.
San Diego County’s Assembly delegation split on the issue. Assemblywoman Sunny Mojonnier (R-Encinitas) and Assemblymen Bill Bradley (R-San Marcos) and Robert Frazee (R-Carlsbad) all voted for the bill. Larry Stirling (R-San Diego) and Pete Chacon (D-San Diego) joined Killea in opposing it.
