Museum to Display Works by Kensett

Seventy paintings and drawings by 19th-Century artist John Frederick Kensett will be on view at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art starting July 11.

This is the first major retrospective of this preeminent American landscape and marine painter in more than 100 years, according to museum officials.

Also opening July 11 are a show celebrating the 100th birthdays of two major German expressionists, Erich Heckel and Karl Schmidt-Rottluff, and an exhibition of nine large photographic works of Los Angeles artist Eileen Cowin.

The museum, at 5905 Wilshire Blvd., is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Admission is free to members; $1.50 for adults; 75 cents for children, students with identification and senior citizens.
