Capistrano Beach : Permit Approved for Bowling Alley Change
A bowling alley in Capistrano Beach may soon knock down its pins for the last time to make way for a church after a permit approval Thursday by the California Coastal Commission.
The sale of the building at 25975 Domingo Ave., however, is not yet final, Capistrano Lanes Bowling Alley manager John Law said.
Recent radio announcements that the Calvary Chapel of Dana Point plans to buy and convert the bowling alley into a church and school have hurt business, Law said.
“The church ruined our summer business already,” Law said. “People think we’re closed.”
Spokespersons for the church Thursday declined to comment on anything regarding the church or the proposed purchase of the bowling alley.
The Calvary Church proposes to convert the 36,880-square-foot alley into a sanctuary, classrooms, offices, a library, game room and storage rooms, said Chris Kroll, commission staff analyst.
The 3.5-acre site is in a commercial/residential land-use area, Kroll said.
