AIDS Death Rate Hits 50%

ATLANTA —
The fatality count for AIDS disease has reached a dreaded milestone, the Centers for Disease Control said today: Half the patients are now dead.
A total of 11,271 cases of acquired immune deficiency syndrome have been reported in this country, and the fatality count this week pushed past the 50% mark, with 5,641 deaths since 1978.
