Two young men were hospitalized after their pickup truck smashed into a palm tree and a utility pole in a high-speed chase through the streets of Norco, a Riverside County sheriff’s spokesman said Tuesday.

A 17-year-old passenger from Corona, whose name was not released, was listed in critical condition at Riverside General Hospital with head injuries and a broken leg, said Deputy Debra Wilson.

The pickup’s driver, Michael Shawn Prang, 19, of Norco, was listed in good condition, she said.

A sheriff’s deputy saw Prang’s pickup racing a motorcycle north on Hamner Avenue between 5th and 6th streets late Monday night, Wilson said. The deputy chased the truck through Norco at speeds “in excess of 80 miles per hour.”

The pickup’s headlights were not turned on, Wilson noted.

After running several stop signs, the truck struck a palm tree and utility pole on southbound Valley View Avenue, between 4th and 5th streets, she said.

No charges had been filed on Tuesday. “They’re holding up on charges until the investigation is completed,” Wilson said.
