A 24-year-old Anaheim man was shot to death near the Disneyland Hotel and police arrested a suspect after an automobile chase through four cities, police reported Wednesday.

Anaheim Police Sgt. Jack Jansen said the body of Evaristo A. Arcos was found by police on the sidewalk in the 1600 block of South Michelle Drive at 5:23 p.m. Tuesday. Neighbors told police they saw a man shoot Arcos three times, jump into a car and drive away. Arcos was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange and pronounced dead two hours later of multiple gunshot wounds to the upper torso, Jansen said.

A broadcast description of the assailant’s car, a Chevrolet Malibu, was picked up by Fullerton Police Officer Jeff Johnson, who saw the vehicle going north on the Orange (57) Freeway and began a high-speed pursuit. The chase led east on Imperial Highway into Brea and south on Kraemer Boulevard to the intersection of Kramer and Cimarron Avenue in Placentia, where the suspect was stopped and apprehended without incident, Jansen said.

Eucario C. Cordero, 26, of Anaheim, was booked on suspicion of murder and held in the Anaheim Jail without bail. He is expected to be arraigned Friday in Fullerton’s North Court, said Investigator John Haradon.

“Witnesses said the victim and the suspect knew each other, and they allegedly had a brief conversation right before Arcos was shot three times in the upper chest,” Jansen said.

A .38-caliber handgun was confiscated from the suspect’s car and police are awaiting laboratory tests on it, Haradon said.

The suspect had been drinking before he was picked up, Haradon said.
