Relocation activity nationally in March, April and May of this year rose 8% over the same period last year, with a peak of 15% during May, the third month of consecutive rises in such activity.

That was reported by Chicago-based RELO/Inter-City Relocation Service, a referral network of independent brokers that helps transferees sell a house in one geographic area and buy one in another area.

March, April and May are peak transfer periods for the relocation industry, RELO said, since that is when corporations usually inform middle- and top-level employees of pending transfers to coincide with the end of the school year and make the move possible during the summer.

The average price of single-family homes sold to transferees during the March-May period was $103,375, an 8% rise over the corresponding three months in 1984, RELO added.
