If you think you can run as fast as track superstar Edwin Moses, you’ll get your chance Sunday at the Bastille Day 8K.

According to race organizers, the Olympic medalist and other celebrities will pace the lesser-known as the course wends its way from the Meridien Hotel on MacArthur Boulevard through the Newport Beach-Irvine financial district. Proceeds from the race will benefit United Cerebral Palsy of Orange County, according to event spokeswoman Darla DeSimone.

To allow plenty of room for the 1,000 or so expected participants, segments of Birch and Von Karman avenues and Campus Drive will be closed to traffic from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Sunday. The course route will be monitored by Irvine police and area Explorer Scouts.
