The Public Employment Relations Board has upheld the Beverly Hills Unified School District’s declaration of an impasse in its negotiations with the Beverly Hills Education Assn., the union representing the teachers.

“We have been disappointed in the lack of progress at the bargaining table,” Assistant Supt. Walther Puffer said.

Nearly a month ago, the board denied an earlier declaration of impasse in an effort to further talks between the district and its teachers. Since then, both sides have remained far apart. The next move by the Public Employment Relations Board is to assign a state mediator to try to break the deadlock. Puffer said the main areas of disagreement are work hours and money.
