Senators opposed to giving line-item veto power to President Reagan began a filibuster today to prevent Senate action, but Majority Leader Bob Dole said the White House will lobby to get the legislation through.

“It’s a matter of great importance to the President,” Dole told reporters. “Whatever he can do, I’m certain he’s willing to do,” said Dole, who said he didn’t know if Reagan, who is recovering from cancer surgery, would make telephone calls.
