A commuter bus linking Manhattan Beach and Hermosa Beach to the El Segundo employment area will begin service Aug. 19.

The bus, nicknamed “Herman,” will run two routes beginning just east of Pacific Coast Highway on Anita Street and traveling north along Hermosa and Highland avenues to the offices surrounding El Segundo and Imperial boulevards.

The fare will be 50 cents per trip for the rush-hour service, which will operate from 6:15 to 8:30 a.m. and from 4 to 6:15 p.m. To promote ridership, the bus will be free the first week.

The service, which is expected to cost the two cities a total of $150,000 per year, will be paid for primarily with Proposition A sales tax revenues.
