Garden Grove : Land for 4th Dealership Added to New Auto Mall

Share

A new auto mall, whose first occupant has seen sales increase in the location, will be expanded by 1.87 acres to make room for four dealerships.

The auto center is bounded by Trask Avenue, the Garden Grove Freeway and the Magnolia Street and Brookhurst Street off-ramps. The City Council this week approved rezoning of the land to the east, between Brookhurst and the freeway off-ramp, that opens the door to negotiations with potential tenants.

Garden Grove Toyota, which moved to the site from Garden Grove Boulevard in 1984, is now ranked fifth in sales among California auto dealers. Garden City Dodge is scheduled to break ground on a second dealership at the auto mall in September.

John Graichen, city redevelopment director, said a dealer for the Korean-made Hyundai has an exclusive right to negotiate for the 1.87 acres, and a Honda dealer has the right to the final spot on the first site.
