Dana Point : Fall From 150-Foot Cliff Proves Fatal to Woman

A Laguna Hills woman who fell 150 feet from a Dana Point Harbor cliff July 10 died early Wednesday of head injuries, a spokesman for Mission Community Hospital said.

Sue Elizabeth Bellows, 26, never regained consciousness after the fall, so police could not determine if it was an accident, said Sheriff's Department Lt. Richard Olson.

"There was no determination because nobody saw her fall, and we never got to interview her," he said.

Bellows was spotted at the base of the cliff, below Scenic Drive, by a sheriff's helicopter crew on the afternoon of July 10. Paramedics found her unconscious and a Marine Corps helicopter took her to Mission Community hospital, Mission Viejo. She was treated for a fractured pelvis and head injuries, a hospital spokesman said.

Bellows' car and her purse were found at the top of the cliff, and Olson said there was no indication of a struggle or robbery. He said an investigation of the death will remain open, should any new information turn up.
