Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole (R-Kan.) and Rep. Jack Kemp (R-N.Y.), possible rivals for the 1988 GOP presidential nomination, have agreed to end a growing and bitter feud, aides said. The aides to both lawmakers said the two men, who often have been on opposite sides concerning budget and tax matters, have decided to put a damper on the acrimonious rhetoric that had become more frequent in recent weeks. “Both he and Kemp agreed that July of 1985 is a little bit too early to start the fireworks for the 1988 election,” a Dole staff member said.
