Reagan to Rest at Camp David for Three Days

President Reagan, after convalescing a week at the White House after cancer surgery, left by helicopter today for three days of rest at Camp David in the solitude of Maryland’s Catoctin Mountains.

There had been some consideration before his midday departure of a private meeting in the residence with British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, a close Reagan friend who is in Washington to speak at a conference.

But White House Deputy Press Secretary Peter Roussel said the two decided against meeting today.

Thatcher, who visited the White House with other members of the International Democrat Union to meet with Vice President George Bush, said afterward she didn’t meet with Reagan because “I have no wish to place any extra burdens or duties upon him. The most important thing is that he gets back to full health and strength.”
