Malaria Warning Issued for Mexico’s Pacific Coast Resorts

SAN ANTONIO, Tex. —
Americans vacationing at resorts on the Pacific Coast of Mexico should take precautions against malaria, Texas health officials say.
The warning was issued after at least eight persons who had vacationed recently in Acapulco and two who visited Puerta Vallarta were struck with the disease.
Health officials recommended that travelers take chloroquine tablets once a week to ward off the mosquito-borne disease. Malaria causes stomach cramps, chills, fever and headaches.
