Youngblood Given OK to Report Late

Some unsigned Ram players may hold out when other veterans report to training camp at Cal State Fullerton Monday, but Jack Youngblood has permission to stay away until after the first exhibition game Aug. 10.

Youngblood, 35, suffered a herniated disk late last season and has been pursuing a rigorous off-season conditioning program to heal it without surgery.

“We’ll bring him in sometime after the Houston game,” Coach John Robinson said Friday. “He has a better chance to be in shape without the physical exertion. The lack of pounding will be good for him.”

Youngblood, a former All-Pro defensive end starting his 15th season, said: “It’s very logical and appropriate for the situation I’m in, trying to be in the best possible shape so when I have to play I’m 100% ready to play and won’t have to hold anything back.”

The Rams have signed second-round draft choice Chuck Scott, a wide receiver from Vanderbilt.

Terms weren’t announced, but indications were that Scott signed for nearly $1 million over four years, with no option.
