A 24-hour strike was called for Aug. 7 by television journalists of the British Broadcasting Corp. amid a political storm over a decision not to show interviews with an alleged Irish guerrilla leader, Martin McGuinness. The Conservative government was accused of pressuring the BBC not to show the interviews. Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher denied the accusations but hailed the decision by the semi-official network.
