The nephew of former President Jimmy Carter has been ordered back to prison by a Butte County judge to serve five years on a drug charge. William Carter Spann, 38, was convicted in March after Valium was found in his blood while he was in jail for violating parole on a 1981 burglary conviction. Spann, who calls himself the “bad peanut” of the Carter family, has been in and out of California jails for 16 years. He is the son of Carter’s sister, Gloria.
