Anti-Israeli Activity Prompts Closure of West Bank College
The army today said it closed down Al Najah University in the West Bank city of Nablus for two months after literature calling for anti-Israeli terrorist activity was found there.
The Israeli military command said the move followed student demonstrations in support of Palestinian terrorist groups and the discovery of the propaganda material during a search by the military on Wednesday.
Nablus, 31 miles north of Jerusalem, is the largest city on the West Bank, which was seized by Israel in 1967 from Jordan. Al Najah’s student body is predominantly Arab.
Parts of the city have been under curfew since an Israeli civilian was shot to death by an unidentified attacker on Tuesday.
Another West Bank university, Bir Zeit, was closed by the army for two months in March after leaflets and posters supporting the Palestine Liberation Organization were found there.
