The Princess and the Panty Hose: Catherine Oxenberg, the real-life daughter of Yugoslavia’s Princess Elizabeth, who plays Amanda on the “Dynasty” soap, may soon get a leg up on her career. Round-the-Clock hosiery just announced that she will be wearing the company’s designs in a series of ads beginning in September. The first one shows Oxenberg dressed in ruby hose and a little red teddy with red high-heel shoes. It’s as if she’s turning out to be her other mother’s daughter. On “Dynasty,” Amanda’s mother is Alexis Carrington Colby Dexter a k a Joan Collins.

What with Larry Bird of the Boston Celtics, Julius (Dr. J) Erving of the Philadelphia 76ers, Joe Klecko of the New York Jets and Olympic gold-medal gymnast Mary Lou Retton in the lineup, the Sears catalogue for fall/winter sounds like a sports extravaganza. The company has drafted leading sports stars and assigned each to model an activewear collection--Bird and Erving wear clothes for average-size jocks, Klecko for big and tall and Retton for girls.

How to go gray the Mickey Rourke way: “First I smoked a few cigarettes,” hair stylist Giuseppe Franco says. “Then Mickey smoked a few cigarettes, and we put the ashes in some silver-gray rinse. Then I bleached his hair all over and put on the gray rinse with the ashes in it. That gave Mickey’s hair a natural gray look.” Rourke needed old-looking hair for his new role as a middle-age detective in an upcoming movie, “Year of the Dragon.” Franco says he’s been styling the actor’s hair both on and off screen since they met 10 months ago. But that’s another story. “He was walking down Canon Drive past the salon, and I told him I admire his work,” Franco recalls. “Now I take care of his hair all the time.”

We thought this sounded like a job for Eddie Murphy, but eight other Beverly Hills cops were on duty to guard a $1 million bejeweled bicycle at its unveiling this week. The bike is studded with 300 carats of diamonds, 30 carats of rubies, 10 carats of emeralds and 48 strands of pearls. You may wonder what purpose such a vehicle serves. Well, it’s being used to promote the Beverly Hills Chamber of Commerce’s Labor Day bike race, which will benefit 15 different charities. After that it goes on sale at Diamonds on Rodeo.

Lisa Frank,self-confessed “socks freak,” read our socks story (July 19) and phoned for help. She wants to open a spiffy socks shop in Santa Monica, she says, but no one will rent space to her. “The landlords look at me as if I’m crazy. They say they’ve never heard of a shop devoted to socks, and how do I expect to pay the rent.” Frank says she expects to pay the rent by selling sensational socks of every shape and shade to customers who are as socksophilic as she is. “I’m sure there are millions of us out there, people who’ll travel anywhere to find a great pair of socks. I want my shop to be the place they travel to.” Frank says Los Angeles hasn’t got a socks shop worth setting foot in. Listen wants to know if you think Santa Monica needs a socks shop. Send a post card with your opinion. We’ll print the results.
