Danny Sullivan knocked nearly two seconds off his qualifying record at Road America, locking up the pole position for today’s Provimi Veal 200 Indy-car race at Elkhart Lake, Wis. Sullivan, driving a Penske Racing March, toured the four-mile, 14-turn course in 1 minute 52.029 seconds, an average speed of 128.538 m.p.h.
That was well below his Friday qualifying lap of 1:53.557 (126.809 m.p.h.) that earned him the provisional pole for the 50-lap, 200-mile race.
