Connors Has Trouble Getting Past Gilbert

Brad Gilbert came within an eyelash of beating top-seeded Jimmy Connors Saturday in the semifinals of a $100,000 tennis tournament.

As it was, Connors was taken to two tiebreakers before beating Gilbert, 7-6, 2-6, 7-6, to move into the final against Gene Mayer, who easily defeated Tom Gullikson, 6-2, 6-4.
